The Eames Lounge Chair & Ottoman from Vitra, designed by Charles & Ray Eames in 1956, is a timeless classic of furniture design. With its unique combination of plywood shells and leather upholstery, it offers the ultimate in comfort and style. The Lounge Chair was honoured with the Triennale Prize in Milan shortly after its launch and has been part of the design collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York since 1960.
The armchair is available here as a favourite combination in our two most popular wood variants: Santos rosewood and cherry.
The classic made from Santos rosewood
Santos rosewood is a particularly strong and resistant wood. Thanks to its dark colouring and smooth surface, the wood has a particularly elegant appearance. This is also how we know the original classic: the Eames Lounge Chair made of Santos rosewood plywood panels, covered with black leather and fitted with a polished base frame with black side sections.

Alternatively, the cherry wood version is available, which is a more cost-effective alternative and is often used in sophisticated interior design due to its warm colour.
Premium F leather
The leather used, Premium F, is a smooth cowhide with a flat grain pattern and a slight top grain lustre. In the interests of sustainability, Vitra developed this leather on the basis of olive tree leaves in order to minimise environmentally harmful substances and manufacturing processes. The leather comes from cattle from Denmark, southern Germany and Switzerland, which also reduces the carbon footprint. It has a pleasantly soft feel and is 1.1-1.3 mm thick.
Base and feet
The base of the Eames Lounge Chair consists of a swivel 5-star base and a die-cast aluminium backrest bracket. The accompanying ottoman is equipped with a non-rotating 4-star base. The frame is polished with black sides.
