Upholstered chairs as design classics
The legendary Drop Chair is a sought-after classic of furniture design which could not be bought for a long time. But since Fritz Hansen produced the exclusive chair in the old style with new manufacturing technology, it also decorates private homes in many attractive colours. The distinctive plastic chair was designed in Copenhagen by the Danish star designer Arne Jacobsen for the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in 1958. Drop has an ergonomically designed seat that rests on four filigree tubular steel legs. The anatomically shaped, tapered backrest offers great freedom of movement. The world famous designer couple breaks completely new ground with their creation: It deliberately avoids the use of a seating shell. Instead, a leather or fabric panel is stretched between two aluminum side parts in a way that it is taut, yet springy.
