Probably the simplest version of the Eames Plastic Chair: the Eames Plastic Side Chair DSX from Vitra fits easily into any living and working environment and is particularly stable.
New: Vitra colours 2019
Muted granite grey, colourful sunlight yellow or harmonious forest green - these are just some of the new Vitra colours, which are made up of three different colour groups:
- Neutral Tones - such as various shades of grey, white and the rich deep black complement each other well as well as strong, bright colours.
- Mid Tones - as the heart of the colour palette, they unite the neutrals with the bright tones and, despite their colourfulness, appear rather calm and moderate.
- Bright Tones - Bright colours that immediately catch the eye with their vivid clarity.
The new colour update from Vitra makes it even easier to combine the popular Eames Plastic Chairs with the Eames Fiberglass Chairs. A harmonious colour palette and the interplay of lively and subtle colours make it possible to combine the two chair groups.
New colours have been added:
- Forest, Green, Sunlight, Pebble, Granite Grey, Rusty Orange, Pale Pink, Light Grey, Deep Black and Sea Blue
History of the Eames Plastic Chairs
As early as the end of the 1930s, Charles Eames had the idea of designing a shell-shaped chair that could be mass-produced industrially. However, this was problematic due to the choice of materials and so it was not until 1948 that the Eames Plastic Chairs were designed.
Originally made of glass fibre-reinforced polyester, the Eames Plastic Chairs, including the DSX design chair, are made of recyclable polypropylene. Today, the Eames Plastic Chairs can be found in all renowned design museums, such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
A Vitra chair for all occasions
The Eames Plastic Side Chair DSX is a particularly adaptable chair, as it is suitable for all areas of use. For example, the DSX design chair has proven its worth as a seat for waiting areas in doctors' surgeries or public offices. If you prefer a minimalist look, choose the Eames Plastic Chair DSX with a four-legged frame as a simple dining chair for your own home.
Particularly practical: with its black powder-coated frame, the Eames Plastic Chair DSX is even suitable for outdoor use. Special additives used to treat the seat shell slow down fading caused by UV rays. However, you should not expose your Eames Plastic Chair DSX to the sun for too long in order to preserve the radiant colours of the seat shell for as long as possible.
With its chrome-plated frame, however, the designer chair from Vitra is only suitable for indoor use.
