Modern interpretation: Samurai Chair Armchair by NORR11
While studying hunting chairs from the middle of the 20th century, designers Tommy Hyldahl and Kristian Sofus Hansen were inspired to design the Samurai Chair. The result is a modern interpretation of a low hunting chair with turned oak parts and a seat and backrest of saddle leather or canvas.
The Samuari Chair combines Japanese simplicity in its construction with elements of Danish stick chairs from the 1950s. For maximum strength, the seat is fixed with brass rivets and the backrest with adjustable leather straps and brass buckles.
Design team Hansen + Hydahl
Designer Tommy Hyldahl is the founder of NORR11. He is responsible for the creative DNA of the manufacturer and his interest in materials and production processes is evident in every single NORR11 product. Since 2015 he has been working together with Kristian Sofus Hansen, who graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. The two designers share a passion for Japanese simplicity and Scandinavian tradition, which they combine in their designs to create timeless furniture.

The Danish furniture manufacturer NORR11 was founded in 2011. The company's focus is to redefine and rethink the understanding of Scandinavian design and thus create timeless pieces of furniture that combine present and past. This goal is achieved through collaboration with innovative young designers. The result is products of outstanding craftsmanship and quality.
Material and format
The frame of the Samurai chair is made of solid oak wood. Seat and back are made of leather or fabric. The chair is 66 cm wide, 83 cm deep and 75 cm high.
