Modern India: Civil Bench by Cassina  

Cassina's study of the furniture of the city of Chandigarh continues: the Civil Bench joins the "Hommage à Pierre Jeanneret" collection. The design seating furniture is characterised by the slender rectilinear shape, the table legs arranged in an inverted "V" and the seat made of the wickerwork typical of India. With its natural, modern look, the Civil Bench fits perfectly into modern living spaces.  

Chandigarh 

The Chandigarh project is considered to be the most mature work of Le Corbusier, who infused his creativity, technology and ideology into the architecture of India's megacity. Another key figure in the project was his cousin Pierre Jeanneret. His many years of intensive involvement with the region led him to combine essential forms with simple materials. In this way, he succeeded in creating a connection between modern European ideals and Indian tradition, which is reflected, for example, in the design of the Civil Bench or the Kangaroo chair.  

Cassina - a traditional Italian company 

Founded in 1927 by two brothers, Cassina was already doing pioneering work shortly afterwards: through the close cooperation of architects and designers from different fields, revolutionary innovations were achieved in terms of materials and design language.  

In the meantime, it is impossible to imagine the world of furniture design without the traditional company and always convinces with a balanced combination of high-quality, natural materials, manual craftsmanship and advanced production methods.  

Material and format  

The Civil Bench is 133 cm wide, 45 cm deep and 42 cm high. In addition to the traditional teak version, natural oak and black stained oak versions are also available on request.
