Gabriel Tan - Sculptural design from everyday observation

The designer Gabriel Tan combines sensitive everyday observations with the highest level of precision craftsmanship in his designs. He found the inspiration for the Soft Stone Sofa in his adopted home of Porto, when he saw people resting on massive, staggered stone blocks in the Parque da Cidade. This image awakened in him a strong desire to translate the hard durability of natural stone into a soft and comfortable piece of furniture. His resulting design language uses clear geometries and asymmetrical structures to create a surprising yet deeply calming harmony.
