Colourful, geometric, world-famous: The red-blue chair by Cassina 

This chair is one of the most important objects in furniture history. Gerrit T. Rietveld designed his masterpiece in the famous De Stijl colours red and blue as early as 1918. The armchair fascinates by its construction. The vertical-horizontal composition causes the individual parts and levels to seemingly float together. This sculptural object still inspires and attracts all eyes. 

Design that defies time 

Born in 1988, the Dutch architect and designer Thomas Rietveld is one of the most important architects and designers of the De Stijl group. His iconic masterpieces include the red and blue chair and the Zig-Zag chair. First produced by the furniture factory G. A. Van de Groenekan in Amsterdam, the Italian furniture manufacturer Cassina has held the licence to manufacture the Zig-Zag chair since 1971. Models of this immortal cult object have been in the New York Museum of Modern Art and the German Vitra Design Museum since 1966.

Cassina - a traditional Italian company 

Founded in 1927 by two brothers, Cassina was already doing pioneering work shortly afterwards: the close collaboration of architects and designers from different fields led to revolutionary innovations in terms of materials and design language. 

In the meantime, it is impossible to imagine the world of furniture design without the traditional company and always convinces with a balanced combination of high-quality, natural materials, manual craftsmanship and advanced production methods. 

Material and format

The red-blue armchair by Cassina consists  of a beech wood frame and a seat made of birch wood. 

It is lacquered in the colours red, blue, yellow and black. 

The armchair is 65.5 cm wide, 83 cm deep and 88 cm high. The seat height is 33 cm, the seat width 42 cm and the seat depth 42 cm.
