Minimalist: The CH22 armchair as a special edition by Carl Hansen & Søn
In 1950 Hans J. Wegner already expressed his artistry and attention to detail in this early design. One of the designer's main concerns was to reduce a design until only its essence remained. The organic construction and the lightness of the curves create a very unique dynamic, which fits perfectly into the living space.
The five deep and complex colors, inspired by Danish artist Per Kirkeby, allude to the rugged beauty of the Nordic landscape and were carefully assembled by Crawford.
Scandinavian design thought through and perfected by Hans J. Wegner
The Danish furniture designer is often called the master of chairs - and that's no accident. During his career, he created nearly 500 chairs, creating many masterpieces. Wegner tried to bring the soul of the furniture pieces to the outside through simplicity and functionality.
New interpretation by internationally acclaimed designer Ilse Crawford
With a new timeless and modern color palette, Crawford reinterprets Hans J. Wegner's classics and brings them into the 21st century with new splendor. Like Wegner, Ilse Crawford's philosophy includes focusing on people's wants and needs. In 2021, Ilse Crawford was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for her services to design.
Material and format
The chair has a width of 69.5cm, a depth of 61.5cm and a height of 72.5cm. The seat height is 37cm.
Carl Hansen uses only wood from sustainable forestry for its durable designer furniture, which is processed as environmentally friendly as possible. Therefore, the frame, armrests and legs are made of solid FSC®-certified oak wood to ensure stability.
Due to the slightly transparent surface of each color, the grain of the oak wood used shines through, creating a beautiful texture. The colors used are water-based and non-toxic.
It takes an experienced craftsman about an hour to make the hand-woven seat from about 120 meters of paper cord to create a seat with impressive durability and stability.
