Eero Saarinen

Eero Saarinen was born in Finland in 1910 and grew up in a creative environment as the son of an architect and a sculptor. in 1923, the family moved to the USA, where Saarinen later studied sculpture in Paris and architecture at the Yale School of Art and Architecture.
After initial years in his father's office, he founded his own architectural practice in 1950. His time at the Cranbrook Educational Community, where he met Charles Eames, was also formative. Together they won the MoMA competition "Organic Design in Home Furnishing" in 1941 with organically shaped seat shells.
Saarinen's goal: to create furniture that adapts perfectly to the human body. His best-known result of this idea is the iconic Tulip Chair.
