Design classic from Finland: Mademoiselle rocking chair Artek

Elegant and worthy of a lady: the design lounge chair Mademoiselle by Artek rightly bears its name! The backrest of the simple and beautiful rocking chair narrows towards the top and underlines the delicate line of the design classic from Finland. Designer Illmari Tapiovaara has provided the chair made of solid birch wood with struts on the backrest, which makes it airy and light. The slightly backward sloping seat increases the seating comfort. Of course, the 1956 chair is not only suitable for ladies, it offers everyone in your home a wonderful way to relax with gentle rocking. Whether in the lounge on the terrace, in the living room in front of the fireplace or in the kitchen: this rocking chair looks good everywhere, regardless of the style of your home. It is available in black, white and sage green.

Finnish designer Ilmari Tapiovaara

Ilmari Tapiovaara, modernist designer, was born in Hämeenlinna, Finland, in 1914. He graduated as an interior and industrial designer from the Institute of Industrial Design in Helsinki in 1937. During his studies, he worked for Alvar Aalto in the London Artek office in 1935/1936. After graduating, he also spent six months in Paris, where he was employed as an assistant in the office of the architect Le Corbusier.

Artek - always modern

Artek was founded in Helsinki in 1935 by four young idealists: Alvar and Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen and Nils-Gustav Hahl. With their designs, they wanted to promote a modern culture of living. The radical spirit of its founders still lives in Artek today and so the company produces furniture from the world of modern design that stands at the interface of design, architecture and art. They are characterised by clarity, functionality and poetic simplicity.
