Eileen Gray

"To be creative, you first have to question everything." - Eileen Gray

Eileen Gray is one of the few women who became famous for furniture design in the early 20th century. After studying architecture and design in London and Paris, she settled permanently in Paris at the age of 26 and developed from an art student into a versatile, modern craftswoman - a true avant-gardist.

Despite her talent, she was long denied commercial success, which only materialised shortly before her death. However, her design and architectural theories had a lasting influence on our understanding of modern living. Her work, characterised by De Stijl, independence and subtle humour, is still regarded today as the epitome of classic modernism.

As an interior designer, Gray created extraordinary spaces for fashion and art professionals - elegant, refined and with an unmistakable signature. Her furniture made of tubular steel, chrome and glass was revolutionary at the time and is now a design icon: such as the Bibendum armchair or the Adjustable Table, one of the most copied pieces of furniture in the world.
