Dirk Wynants - visionary of Belgian design
The Hopper Bench AA was designed by Dirk Wynants, founder of Extremis. His design story began in the garage in 1994, when he developed the legendary Gargantua picnic table - a table with height-adjustable benches for sitting together at eye level. Dirk Wynants studied interior architecture with a focus on furniture design at Sint-Lucas in Ghent and has since built Extremis into an internationally renowned design brand. His designs have been recognized with numerous awards, including the iF Gold Award, the Red Dot Award and the German Design Award in Gold. In 2023, he received the prestigious Henry van de Velde Lifetime Achievement Award for his life's work and contribution to Belgian design.
