Classic:  Tulip Chair / Swivel Tulip Chair Knoll International

Designer Eero Saarinen often found a room with chairs to be restless due to the four legs each chair had. For this reason, he wanted to design a chair that would make rooms appear calmer and more inviting with just one solid base. Between 1955 and 1957, he designed the well-known and still very popular Tulip Chair series. He had true-to-scale miniatures made and tested their effect in dollhouses.

His training as a sculptor allowed Saarinen to continually refine the models and create them in full size. Together with Don Petitt from Knoll's Design Development Group, he worked on a multitude of ingenious models of chairs with only one pedestal. They then sent the prototypes to friends and family so they could test them in their own homes. The end result is today one of the world's most timeless designs – the Tulip Chair.

The Saarinen collection has received many prestigious awards.  Including:
  •  Award from the Museum of Modern Art, New York, 1969.
  • Federal Prize for Product Design/“Good Form”, Germany,  1969.
  • Award for the designer career from the Design Center Stuttgart, Germany, 1962.
